The Sonography Market is Changing Through Innovation and Freelance
A recent study by Siemens Healthineers describes how the sonography industry is changing and becoming more complex as well as shows how innovations can help shape this industry. Siemens shows how their new product, the ACUSON Sequoia meets all of the demands and pain points faced by this growing industry today and into the future. Siemen’s partnership with Macadamian Technologies provides a simpler, innovative, and by far much better solution to the ever changing world of sonography.
Siemens projects that the sonography market will grow 23% by 2026, migrating progressively to freelance work. This means that, increasingly, sonographers are expected to quickly pivot and learn how to operate unfamiliar machines and meet patient needs in a changing environment.
Offering equipment that is easy to learn is a necessity for smoothly running a hospital or medical clinic.
What employers of sonographers seek in their imaging products:
1. Protocols that enable them to standardize examinations, aligning freelancers with existing practices.
2. Equipment that is intuitive.
3. Quick image acquisition and optimization without sacrificing quality.
Siemens’ study shows that 90% of sonographers experience work-related pains for more than half of their careers. Additionally, 20% of sonographers experience a career-ending work related injury.
What sonographers seek in their imaging products:
1. Ergonomic design
2. Lighter weight transducers, which reduce the potential for injury
3. Equipment that does not distract them from the patient and the image
With this in mind, Siemens conducted a study comparing their ACUSON Sequoia with two other vendors of ultrasound machines. Siemens used 44 sonographers, acquired 408 images, and facilitated the completion of 1,320 tasks. Siemens tested their ACUSON Sequoia on a survey of 4 areas of interest:
1. Ease of use: received a score 4.54/5
2. Task success rate: 96%
3. Average system usability: 95th percentile of all products tested
4. Image satisfaction: 4.47/5
“Whoaaa that’s cool! It’s really smart post processing to take a signal like that and adjust to the right size. You don’t even need me! It picks up the color so easily. I’d have to work a lot harder on my machine.”
